Learning Arabic or English?
As a good Muslim, studying religion obligatory. Then automatically studying Arabic language is a must because science is built on Arabic Religion.
On the other hand, in everyday life we are not apart from English. Wherever we are sure we find the English language, whether in schools, offices, public places and so on, and we can also find in the English language products, such as food products, school supplies, clothing, electronics and others. Why is that? because English is the international language. But, which one is more important?
The Importance of Arabic
Someone who want to learn the noble Islamic religion, would interact with the Arabic language. Because Islam is built on the Qur'an and Sunnah in Arabic. Similarly, in understanding the Qur'an and Sunnah through the understanding of the Salaf Salih generation is written in a language that is noble. Therefore, no exaggeration to some scholars claim that law learn Arabic is mandatory, not just because the Prophet Muhammad was born in the Arab country, but more than that, because God is all-knowing everything had chosen Arabic as the language enshrined in the holy book al Quran is a guidance for all beings. Shaykh al-Islam Ibn Taymiyyah said: "Arabic is actually part of the religion of Islam. Learn the law is mandatory. Because actually understand the Qur'an and Sunnah is obligatory, and both of them are not understood but in Arabic. If an obligation can not be done perfectly but by doing something, then that something becomes mandatory ".
Among the elements of the Arabic language, there are laws that must be studied with the obligatory fard 'ain, but there is also the obligatory kifayah. Thus the meaning contained in the letter of Commander of the Faithful Umar bin Khattab who d goes to Abu Musa al-Ash'ari Sabbath which contains (among others):
Learn about this religion, and learn Arabic
On another occasion, the caliph Umar ibn Khattab said:
Learn Arabic, because Arabic is the real part of the Religion kalia. [2]
Thus, we would not crave to understand the science of religion and won the good promised by God through the tongue of His Messenger? the answer is definitely "yes". This can be realized by studying Arabic biidznillah with spirit.
English is also an important
Is no doubt that English is a language that is very important, because English is an international language. Today, English is the key to unlocking the knowledge of the world, by which we can mengexplore whatever, and wherever we want.
Furthermore, since English is the international language, then the government is put in the subjects of English National Examination. So we want or do not want to have to learn English if we want to pass the national exam.
Equally important
Most people believe that the science of religion is everything, while science will only plunge the world. Some are convinced that science is important dunialah because our lives now are in the world, not in the hereafter. Rear of the afterlife that matters.
Rasulullah SAW said: "seek knowledge is obligatory for every Muslim and Muslimah". (Narrated by Ibn Majah) [3]
And he also said: " who wants (happiness) then it must be the science world, and anyone who wants (happiness) then it must be the science of the hereafter, and whoever wants (happiness) then they must be with science".
Epistemology in accordance with Islam, that religion and science studying general (worldly) is mandatory, so we are safe in this world and the hereafter. [4]
Whoever wants to be successful in this world and the hereafter then learn English and Arabic language support, as both are essential.
